Férula and Clara settle into a comfortable routine without him and grow incredibly close. Férula waits on Clara hand and foot and resents Esteban and the masculine disruption he brings to the house. Clara talks endlessly to her unborn child, which she knows is a girl and has already named Blanca. After Blanca is born, Férula is so busy taking care of both Clara and the baby that she has little time to resent Esteban. When Blanca is just a child, Clara and Esteban decide to spend summers at Tres Marías, where Blanca plays with Pedro Segundo’s son, Pedro Tercero.

The best known version of the song is McEntire's from her 2017 album of Christian music. The politics and business news you need to stay up to date, delivered each morning in a must-read newsletter. Beyond the square tower with a castle-like parapet, half-timbered gable, the open eaves, the roaming specters and lost souls may guide you to secret rooms. With over a century of history, there’ll be plenty to see on this 10,000-square-foot estate. The song was previewed in full exclusively through Drake’s Instagram on April 19, 2024, after he had officially dropped his first diss track “Push Ups” earlier in the day.

Rumors spread that the Conservative Party sent the brandy to Severo as revenge for joining the Liberal Party despite his high social status, but this is never confirmed. The only thing known for sure is that the brandy did not come from the southern voters. The entire del Valle family is devasted, as is Esteban Trueba, who returns from the mines.
Midnight’s Children

Their love persists even after Pedro is run out of the hacienda by Esteban, because he is putting communist ideas in the other workers' heads. After she becomes pregnant with Pedro Tercero's child, her father forces her to marry Count Jean de Satigny, whom she does not love. After Blanca leaves the Count and returns to the Trueba home, she sees Pedro sporadically, resisting his attempts to persuade her to marry, but their relationship continues. Blanca's reconciliation with her father eventually allows her to flee to Canada with Pedro, where they finally are able to achieve happiness together. Blanca is also able to earn large amounts of money for the first time by selling her clay figurines, which are seen as folk art by Canadians. Although they enjoy the sexual pleasure that their relationships bring, Allende’s women do not give their spirits or their minds with the abandon that their lovers would wish.
When she is older, Alba attends a local college where she meets Miguel, now a grown man, and becomes his lover. Miguel is a revolutionary, and out of love for him, Alba involves herself in student protests against the conservative government. After the victory of the People's Party (a socialist movement), Alba celebrates with Miguel.
Publication history
Clara's marriage to Esteban Trubea is something she accepts but she never truly loves him and knows from the beginning that she will never do so. She is uninterested in material things and takes for granted her own high economic standing. It is not until later, after great tragedy, that she takes the role of helper/servant instead of dreamy bystander. In the meantime, Esteban receives a telegram from his sister, Férula, which claims their mother, Doña Ester, is dying and wants to see him. Esteban doesn’t particularly love his mother, but he returns home, where Doña Ester begs him to settle down with a respectable wife and have sons to carry on his name.

The couple pass away in a gruesome car accident in which Nívea is decapitated and her head lost. The details of the accident were hidden from their daughter Clara, because she was pregnant at the time. However, her intuition brings her to the location of the lost head, which ends up being hidden in the basement since the body had already been buried. The military regime attempts to eliminate all traces of opposition and eventually comes for Alba. She is made the prisoner of Colonel Esteban García, the son of Esteban Trueba's and Pancha Garcia's illegitimate son, and hence the grandson of Esteban Trueba.
Storyline
Jaime is killed early in the coup, and Miguel goes off to fight with the guerillas. Blanca hides Pedro Tercero—who is on the new government’s wanted list—in the house, and Esteban, still in shock over Jaime’s death, helps Blanca and Pedro flee the country. Alba follows Blanca’s lead and begins hiding wanted revolutionaries in the house until she can help them escape the country, but Esteban knows nothing about it—or that the police have their house under surveillance. Nana moves into the big house on the corner to help Férula with the children, and the Mora sisters, three local students of spiritualism, are drawn to Clara and the house.
Love in the Time of Cholera
The night Clara gives birth, Esteban goes to the local brothel, the Christopher Columbus, where he is surprised to find Tránsito Soto. She offers to pay back the 50 pesos, but Esteban says he would rather she owe him a favor. Clara gives birth to a daughter named Blanca and later, to twin boys Jaime and Nicolás.
Esteban offers a monetary reward for anyone who can reveal Pedro's whereabouts to him. Esteban García, unrecognized by his father, aids in helping to find Pedro. Pedro is able to escape from Esteban, who declines to give a reward to his son. Esteban later learns Blanca is pregnant with Pedro's child, and he goes to her house to falsely tell her that he murdered Pedro. Clara makes Esteban leave and reassures Blanca that Pedro is indeed alive, but they won't be reunited for some time because he needs to flee to safety. Though she maintains some distance from him, she does allow him to meet their seven-year-old granddaughter Alba and to be a part of her and Blanca’s lives again.
